As Congress prepares to return to Washington, any serious discussion of solutions for the nearly 50 million uninsured Americans has been pushed off the table. The right wing has had a field day attacking government run health care--despite the fact that government run health care, in the form of Medicare, is one of the most popular, effective social services we have. Congress could provide health care for everyone: simply supporting the Medicare for All Bill and extending coverage to all the uninsured. But the lobbyists for private insurers and the drug companies are determined not to let anything come in the way of their profits.
